Method Statement

I know these have been talked about before, but I've just been asked for a method statement and wondered if anyone could give me any specific pointers?

It's for a residential care home, I've been working there on an annual maintenance contract for many years and I do have a risk assessment and insurance in place which they have also asked for.

I'm also wondering if there's anything else they may want to see, and, other than the legal requirements, can they insist on things mid contract?

  • I have had to produce a few method statements. They should be done for specific tasks. We have done them for certain tasks which we felt were high risk. As a couple of examples we produced risk assessments or unloading shipping containers and the operation of a stone crusher. Send me your email address and I will send you a couple of examples over

  • We also maintain some residential homes and have Risk assesments, method statements H & S docs for them.  As above I could send you an example.

  • Thanks guys, that's really helpful.  Hopefully I can get these done asap and no doubt it will be a useful exercise.  I would assume that the Method Statements would normally be requested before or at the beginning of a contract.  They have given me a deadline to produce the documents which afaik is not a legal requirement (I am only a one man business).

Is it normal for the contractor to ask for a Site Hazard Checklist?  There are a few things on site I feel i ought to know about, including a glasshouse I suspect contains asbestos that I have not  been getting answers to.
