I LOVE IT!!!!
Our first patios in the early 70's were nearly all a very fashionable chequered pattern. Back then every town had a few local slab makers and that is where we would go for the 'lovely' smooth finish 18 x 18 in grey, red, yellow, green or black. The surface would sometimes last no more than 5 years before the aggregate showed through!
Some of the ‘new fangled’ garden centres then started to stock ‘national’ slabs as well. Marshals and Charcon come to mind. It wasn’t until the 80’s that the builder’s merchants jumped onto the bandwagon.
ah how I love going to properties with old odd sized paving in colours like that when they ask you to try and match it to extend it, or quote to take it up, clean it off and relay it. The first question that always comes into my head is....WHY?????????
