I got rid of mine as so much of the soil here is clay that it just clogs up. Also it can't handle roots (i.e. it's not strong enough to chop up roots). If you are going over a previously-cultivated bed then great, but I am just as happy with hand tools for that now.

I have one - its useful for quickly scarifying small patches of shady lawn - and takes up so much much less space than a Full size scarifier - that said, I would not dream of using it to do more than 5square meters or so. Same for aerating - it simply can not cut into very compacted turf, especially not clay or stoney soil.
The rotavator attachment is great for working over Bedding display areas prior to planting, and mixing in the 1inch of compost Added each year - but the Mantis stands not a chance in hell if the ground is anything other than bare soil - grass roots clog it and ground with any roots in - as dan said.
Again its advantage is its tiny, very fuel efficient (Uses honda 4x stroke 25cc) and tills bare soil to 3 inch quicker than by hand, with less work on your back... Its basically a powered TIME SAVING HOE.
As long as its used as such - a small tool to quickly speed up Small jobs you would normally do by hand - it pays for itself. It comes with me 2-3 days a week and gets used most times.
Ive had one for years and as others have said a very good machine, its made for light use and is light weight and simple to use, great in flower beds, some of my clients have veg patches and allotments, it makes fast work of cultivated soil. with the aireator its best done when lawn is damp as hard soil is to much for the tine to get in. Also it is easy on the back!
