Making Tax Digital

Clearly we're all coming under closer scrutiny by the inland revenue  and being given extra homework 4 times a year. As we all want to do the right thing, what are the best HMRC recommended making tax digital providers for us sole traders?

    Have a look at Zoho Books. They have a dedicated sole trader MTD section, and although I haven't used their MTD bit yet, their standard sole trader software is very easy to use and very intuitive, and Free if turnover less than £50k.

    Thankfully, the 'making tax digital' does not apply to 'Partnerships'. At least not for the foreseeable future anyway.

      Not quite correct. MTD for General Partnerships has been delayed, but is definitely coming, according to HMRC website and various accounting websites.

        No, I was correct. MTD does not apply to Partnerships at present. I said not for the forseeable future, which is true because although it will happen, no timetable has been announced.

          Like you Vic, we are a partnership so have escaped this ridiculous MTD. I believe there is no date available for if and when.

          I should think the inevitable non compliance , particularly over the next 3 year decrease in turnover threshold sucking more and more people in will keep HMRC more than busy trying to police it without adding partnerships to the mix.

          I predict a lot of non compliance and an almighty mess.

            Apparently it started in 2015 and they have already wasted just under £850 million of tax payers money on it.

              Yes, politicians seem expert in wasting " our money" MTD stands for making tax difficult not digital! These mandarins in their ivory towers with their gold plated pensions are totally removed from the real world and when they mess up are moved sideways not sacked. Anyone tried contacting HMRC with a query? You have more chance of buying a winning lottery ticket. Welcome to 1984.
