Machinery sharing groups

Anyone ever been part of something like this?

The idea being that little used machines like scarifiers, aerators, rotovators, flail mowers etc are bought between a number of business' . 

I can see the benefits;

* lower capital outlay 

* machinery not sitting about doing nothing as much

* don't have to hire 

But i can see more problems than benefits;

* legal ownership and accounting issues

* when more than one business wants a machine at the same time

* who keeps the machine

* breakages - who pays?

* what if people fall out - not uncommon

It is something that has been tried within the agricultural community and has had some success but it seems very complicated. Obviously you would have to know the other participants and trust them to some degree.

    It might be better to own equipment and hire it to other businesses if they need it.
