Low wall construction - Grab adhesives?

Hi all

I am looking for advice on creating a low retaining wall, (0.5 metres high and 10 metres long), in reconstitued stone block walling. The aim is to provide a contemporary look and therefore the client wants clean lines and minimum mortar gaps between the blocks. I am considering using a form of grab adhesive or something similar. Has anybody else used these products and what are the advantages / disadvantages. I am particularly concerned about using these products at low temperatures, the costs, and how they perform over time. Thanks in advance.

How about build the wall to code depending on what the wall is holding back with blocks & then face with the stone as a finish ?

this way your support for the retaining wall is in the blocks and the stone could be cut into slithers like a brick face and be adhered to the block with a waterproof grab adhesive or mix etc to get the dry stone wall effect with reduced joints but no sacrifice to structure

    • Thanks for the suggestion Neal. The blocks are quite substantial and are designed to be laid as walling in their own right so adding any other block shouldn't be necessary. They won't be holding anything back but the wall is acting as a decorative divide. I''m thinking that Marshalls M-Fix should do it but wondering if anybody else has any other ideas.

  • I have used the Marshalls stone cladding, its a good product and comes with the adhesive ready to use, the adhesive is a sika product so good stuff

I have also used a Mapei external tileing adhesive to do the same job, this is also a very good product but will depend on the weight of the stone or cladding you wish to stick.

    Best of luck
