Losing tools...is it just me?

Am I the only one who often loses or leaves tools behind even after doing a final tool check.

Regularly have to sheepishly return to clients to collect a rogue tool. Managed to leave the mower ramp behind the other day I guess it's the rush getting on to next job.

Anyone left a mower behind?

  • Yes all the time. Which is why I've sprayed all my hand tools with florescent yellow paint.

  • not regularly if i have loads of tools out in the garden i try and keep them all together

i once did leave the mower box on the foot path at the side of the road when loadind the mower and got distacted luckerley it was still there when i went back for it

  • I left a mower grass box behind just after telling the customer I was putting it by the van so I didn't forget it.

  • I've sprayed all my tools in the most fluorescent orange paint I could find and that helps. 48558805?profile=RESIZE_930x

Glad to see it's not just me then. Like the idea of spraying hand tools may even start to buy wolfgarten tools for their bright colour schemes.

Lost secateurs other day although I think the got accidently tipped with green waste. aarrgghh!

  • Used to happen to me all the time. A good way is to have a checklist in the car or to do a walk round before you go. Thers's nothing more annoying or embarrassing than leaving your tools onsite and then having to remember where you left them.

  • On my 5th hand fork, just lost second hori knife, and about 3 pointing trowels since april. I expect to have to build a shed for all the lost tools that will hopefully return when the borders die back!

    • lost loads. 2 dust pans, hand brush, pop up bin, 2 secateurs.

though i think 1 pair of secateurs turned up yesterday in a tool box.

the main thing that annoys me is customers keeping the tools and not giving them back

agree on that one... I know a trowl at one customer is mine, but she maintains it is hers.... at the end of the day not worth fighting over

I've got pretty good at not leaving things now. Everything goes back in a certain place in the van so I can scan the back and see everything is there. I make sure I don't put things down in silly places like putting secateurs in a tree branch. Still secateurs and hand fork are the things I do occasionally forget which is why I buy cheap ones from asda. All my other tools are top quality. Work mate is very good at leaving stuff behind which is why I insist he brings his own hand tools now.
