Lookout – Caterpillars About!

Just found and destroyed 2 webs of the brown tail moth caterpillar in this Hawthorn hedge. If left, a couple hundred caterpillars would have emerged and devoured all leaves on a good bit of the hedge in a day or two.

It is best to cut the web out as it is, straight into a plastic bag and burn - responsibly! Once on the loose, the horrible little beasts will cause damage to plants and itchy irritation to you!

Good find - we'll be keeping a lookout for them! Sound pretty nasty as a garden critter really.

Came into contact with these last week. Didn't release until I tipped of waste a week later and noticed them in the bag. Been suffering with itchy rash for over a week now as It was probably on clothes, bags, and equipment and I have spread the hairs everywhere.

    Nasty little things
