  • The nursery i get my bark, woodchip and soil from uses a tractor with front loader, means he can measure it to exactly a cubic metre or ton.

  • Hi Charlie,

We use Avant Loaders for all our loading and unloading duties on our landscape & treework business as well as for lots of other jobs around our sites.

They can have stamped buckets to comply with weights and measures for selling by volume.

You can also fit pallet forks and over 100 other attachments to them and depending upon where in the range you budget goes, they can lift up to 1400KG.

If you have a look on my profile page you will see what we get up to with our machines.

To see the range of machines have a look at our website

You will find that they hold there price even on used equipment, but they make a great investment for your business to save on all the hand loading and moving that becomes effortless.

I would suggest selling by volume over weight as to keep a machine calibrated for weight costs a lot more than it does to buy a bucket that is calibrated to volume.

  • Thanks for ideas folks, but looking for cheap idea/machine to start with as it might not take off so need minimum outlay and im thinking of this for unloading http://www.loadhandler.co.uk/loadhandler-lh3000.htm

they seem to get good reviews on arbtalk.

  • CJ i have a pickup and an Iveco tipper truck and i can tell you now that a pickup would be completeley unsuitable unless your dumping the smallest of loads, i would advise you to either invest in a tipper truck or buy a dedicated tipper trailer, you would be able to transport much more weight and unload it much more quickly. If i was to carry around a ton of soil in my L200 it would be wrecked in no time!

  • Have a word with stephen shields at landscape supplies, I was in last week and he was taking delivery of a brand new JCB loader so may be getting rid of his old one. Also might be able to give you a few pointers as your obviously so far out of his way as to not be competeing

  • Cheers Chris, I have a large twin axle trailer so was thinking of the load handler for trailers that they supply, ive read somewhere that someone has loaded over 2 ton on one and it still worked ok.

Im looking at this with minimum outlay as possible to see if works then build up for additional income.

you know yiourself here in NI tipper trailers aint cheap and finding second hand ones that arent nackered is few and hard between.
