Long reach tools...invaluable

What do you use ? only saying as I remember when I started out it seemed ther was a fair amount of struggling going on..maybe lack of technique as well ! but Long reach stuff has to be part of your reportoir !

Things that save me time and make working more flexible for me are one of these http://coronatoolsusa.com/catalog/pruning-tools/tree-pruner/tp-6881-arborist-tree-pruning-system-6-12-ft.html which I got for 50 quid of ebay, a pole saw for my combi tool and an extension for my Tanaka long arm like this http://www.abbeygardensales.co.uk/brushcutters/tanaka-accessories/showitem-F1-EXT200.aspx are great and finally the extension for my Henchman http://www.henchman.co.uk/accessory.jsf?id=1&prod=2..

Same goes for if you are going down too a long handles graft and rough neck post hole bar are used a surprising amount ;-)

This stuff helps me do the stuff my customers can't, plus I can do it better and quickerDoesn't matter what you do stuff will always be out of reach but the right tools REALLY help !

Just needed to extole their vitues for all to hear as it's important stuff to me

Mark

We use all manner of long reach tools. The creme de l creme is the Stihl telescopic chainsaw pruner which will take a hedgecutter head....I know you're not supposed to but it does come in handy on occasion....
  • Agreed!!!

  • I have an Echo pole pruner...used the chainsaw supplied with it once about 6 years ago when I bought it, now permanently in the van with a 'whizzing disc' fitted. Fantastic tool when needed, although hard work when topping a 15 ft wide hedge.

  • I used to have one of these http://www.tooled-up.com/ManProduct.asp?PID=179890and it's longer brother...not cheap for what they are and very much for the domestic market because they are flimsy to say the least...but were handy while they lasted as there is no string to snag and it filled a gap between braking the ladders out...just wish someone did a pro version, I emailed Corona but they didn't recommend their ones for anything but home use...shame.

  • Mark used to have one of these too.... ;)

I used to have a fiskars (wilkinson sword) 4M pruner like in the link above. It lasted years and i was sorry when it finally broke. I replaced it with a wolf version with rope - not a patch on the fiskars design. I think i will get another and ditch the wolf.

  • Careful with that choice Stuart only because I had one originaly that had a angled head...but just the head..it lasted well and seemed fairly robust, now they are supplied with a sort of plastic arm that clicks to an angle and the build if far far less robust, although the price is still as high ?

    Well that's my expeirience ;-)
