Local Council Work

We've been approached by a parish council to tender to perform some landscaping & grounds maintenance work.

 

The Tender runs to 10+ pages for some, basically, minor one off and recurring work. It's a bit like 'Thou shalt',   'Before thy commence thou must contact the <...contact...>' etc etc ..ok a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my drift...

 

I have stayed away from Local Authority work for a long time for many reasons like this - rightly or wrongly...

 

I would love to get any comments if you currently perform this type of work and how you find it - from issues dealing with councils to any peculiarities they may have.

 

I have preconceived ideas about them...

    On side note..we were on gumtree website earlier looking for something and saw an advert for an 'experienced' gardener (in South East England) advertising his time for £8p/hr with him adding 1/2hr free of charge at the end of the job to clear up !!.

    Thought it must be a retired person, but no - states he's in his 40's !!!

    He must surely can't be making a legitimate living on a wage like that .....
