LJN - is it our industry's #bankofdave ?

For those that have followed Dave Fishwick's exploits in setting up community based banks on C4, I wonder if anyone saw any parallels ? Putting aside the financials/money issue of his exploits, LJN has a similar disruptive business model, has challenged our industry's way of thinking, has caught the 'old firms' totally off-guard and is totally behind the micro-SME business. Others are struggling to catch up and start initiatives to better serve their members rather than the old 'establishment'.... An interesting point to consider ?

..and the old guard are changing more than most think.

What caught my eye yesterday was the revelation that Andrew Maxted was leaving the HTA after nine years.

It's not the departure that startled me...personnel come and go, that's life. No, what's more revealing is the text of the press release put out by the HTA.

"As part of its ongoing commitment to provide an efficient and cost effective service to members HTA has restructured its internal organisation."

Positive restructuring is usually the creation of roles, not the abolition.

"I am looking forward to a short rest before seeking new opportunities to put my skills and experience to good use"

Does this suggest that Maxted had little time to plan ahead?

"2012 was a very difficult year for all of the horticultural industry and it is important that we restructure to keep pace with the changing environment."

I'm not so sure that's a true statement. An organisation as big and as experienced as the HTA should know better that yo generalise is such a way.

I'm sure 2012 was a bad year for parts of the horticulture industry, just as I am sure that 2012 was an exceptionally good year for other parts of the industry.

I cannot help read into the HTA statement that it's them that isn't performing well.
