Does it sound like something else? It is a new lawn, laid in May/June using Rowlawn turf. the area affected is about 2sq m, and the grass has just turned yellow over the course of a week.

Can the effected area of grass be easily pulled up and that it has little or no root growth?
Try taking a core sample or dig a little area over and see if you can see them. If it is leather jackets these can be controlled by removing by hand if only a small infestation or by applying a biological nematode as long as the soil temperature is over 10c.
Take a core sample and have a good look - it could be down to any number of issues even a fox or dog peeing - but firstly prove if it is or isn't leather jackets.
