Hello I have a patio to price up. The patio in question is 30 m2 and is a hand jive job as there is no way to get a micro digger in. My problem is that the topsoil is about 400mm deep and can't get to good ground easily.

I'm thinking of digging down 270mm rather than 170 doubling the base layer total to 200mm and laying down a geo textile to double the strength of the already doubled sub base.

Need help really knowing if this would work?

If I could get a mini digger in I would most likely take the lot out and build up with 6f5 untill the final 100mm with type 1. Probably over engineerd but better over than under.

Any help would be much appreciated

  • Where we are, 200mm of top soil is normal, followed by sub soil and then clay, so we would always use a concrete base of 100mm, with steel road mat to create a raft as a base.
