If you like the look of the Stiga then also check out the reviews on the Atco liner and Mountfield models as I think you will find they are the same mower..
Thanks for the heads up Harry. Not quite made my mind up yet, I'm still looking into them, there's no rush at the moment 😊👍
I've a Mountfield sp555v its the same as the stiga but without a BBC- its a lot better than I thought it would be. Its light ish - honda engine - it can roll down steps and lean back to get into the van and its got a really good cut.
Its not very good in the wet and I am sure its not a 70 litre box more like a 50-60 litre seems quite a bit smaller than my other 70L - 75L boxes. For the price I would say they are worth it , I don't use it all the time I tend to cut the neigbours lawns with it and my own sometimes but I am taking it out tomorrow , its much lighter than my john deere and won't sink and churn the grass up.
Thanks for that Andrew, there's so many different makes and models out there, it's hard to decide. I'm going to take my time before I finally make my mind up 😊👍
Thanks for your input Martin, I'll bare that in mind 😊👍
I often mulch with an Izy. Just get the model with the twin blades and flip the flap to closed. Couldnt be simpler and the results are good as long as the grass isnt too long.
Cheers Tony. I'm now looking at the Honda HRX537HY which has a built in mulching option. There's just too many to choose from lol.
cant speak for stiga-research who actually owns them.I've had a lot of mowers over the years.I would start with the basics-engines,best=kawi,v.closely followed by honda.Briggs engines(apart from the i.c. engines are appalling.Badly and cheaply built/terrible,sloppy engineeering tolerances+oil and petrol greed-avoid.Then look at the structure.alloy decks best, also pay attention to the wheels, your looking for proper rubber tyres-not plastic!Gearboxes-metal casing rather than plastic.large ejection area for clippings. Roller or 4 wheel?4 wheeler all day long-lighter/better on slopes,MUCH cheaper on gearbox/drive repairs.harking back to engines, ohv engines will do probably 3 times the hours of the newer ohc engines.Put another way-you'll never see an ohc engine on a generator which are expected to do hundreds of hours....Also direct drive mowers are hugely superior to your bog standard belt driven mowers.blade/brake clutch facility is a nice extra feature (as long as its a mechanical 2 plate clutch,NOT belt driven, some are...Fan assisted collection is a v.good thing in wet weatherFood for thought!
Thanks Andrew, that's some very good advice. I will take all what you said on board, cheers 👍
Plastic grass box great for wet collection
also mulching facility a good option
