Hi Tim
I use one ( albeit badged up as a Kaaz ) - Collection good as long as the bag is kept clean. Speed isn't too bad - could be a touch faster, but I haven't tweaked the carb. The manual states the speed to be 1 metre per second, which equates to 2.2 mph. The only downside is that the length is a bit long when loading the van ( Vauxhall Vivaro ) with multiple mowers and other kit.
I've been running mine for around 10 years now - quite happy with it ( hope I'm not tempting fate here !!!! )
Cheers
Mark
I've the kaaz version...... must have had it 15 years and its still going strong...... speed is adequate.... not super fast but ok Gearbox clutch can cause some problems after a lot of use........... if you're reasonably handy at mechanical things, it can be sorted for about £100 in parts
I had the lawnflite from new 14 years ago, it was a good machine but after 5 years I had it sped up and then it went wrong. It served me well but had same problems with the drive so bought a Honda roller. In total it lasted 8 years. My mate bought his the same day 14 years ago and his worked for 12 years but he's gone battery hayter now.
There are two different gearboxes on these machines, the standard an the 'HS' (high speed). The internals are completely different, having had both types and had them stripped down side by side on the bench, the internal cogs are different sizes and have different amounts of teeth on the gear - as well as from memory being a different gear pattern.
The Lawnflite/Kaaz/Cobra and Kubota models are by and large the same - there are a few minor differences but they are essentially the same machine made in the same factory. Ran a Kubota Pro HS roller for several seasons, having had a lawnflite model before that.
Eventually the roller bearings will give up and need changing and the gearbox 'dog gear' will wear out. A decent repair shop will know how to overhaul them instead of just trying to sell you a complete gearbox assembly...
We use a kazz high speed model I'd say its a good speed not to slow or to fast . I don't think the hayters are slow anymore quite the opposite from reviews I've seen .
Hayters are OK speed-wise, it's all the others! Unfortunately they're not as robust as they used to be.
My hayter 41 pro is plenty fast, in fact I struggle to keep a straight line at full tilt! Often use it feathering the throttle.
I run the hydrostatic version, which is great as you have total control of the speed. Super fast if you want it to be. Worth the extra if you can strech the budget.
Hope that helps.
Chris
Thanks Chris. I did look at that, but I'm afraid the scrooge in me didn't like the price! I've now ordered an HS which should be a bit faster than the Stihls we're running.
Good mower, you won't be disappointed, Tim. Have a good season.
