Lawn treatment pricing

For next year I am looking to start doing lawn treatments similar to Green Thumb but I have no idea of how to price them up. I would be looking at spraying for weeds and moss and granular for feed/moss. Also would like to get the frequency of application  right  I was thinking of 4/5 visits a year is this enough.

Dave.

  • Hi Dave,

Use your internal hourly rate and cost of materials to start off with. You then need to determine how long it takes to spray herbicide or appy fertilser for a specified area such as 100m3. Have you researched which products you will use and have you negotiated pricing from the supplier? Until you know your costs it’s a guessing game. You have to charge to make a profit, not charge what anyone else is stating.

Have a look at the Greenthumb price calculator on their website but don’t just copy, as stated above, as you must know your own costs and profit margins.

You also need your PA1 and PA6 certificates to buy and apply the pesticides.

As to treatment plans and options your approach is about right for the very basic things but you need to have that defined before you sort the pricing. Are you selling cheap and cheerful service or top end higher price where best results are needed? Consider too that feed and weeds treatments only provide part of a complete lawn care program. Cultural aspects like scarification and aeration are essential to get the best results.

Hi Russell, thanks for that I have my PA1 and 6 and I think I have the  scarification and aeration sorted but was struggling with price for applying chemicals and not wanting to scare customers with my pricing but you have given me a few things to consider.
