Lawn problems

Quite a few of my domestic lawns are in a sorry state after the dry Summer and wet Winter............... bare patches, moss, weeds.    I was hoping the bare patches from the Summer drought would have picked up but no such luck.  Wondering what the best strategy is...............  If I apply fertilizer (which could certainly do with), this will affect any germinating grass seed I put down or would a liquid fertilizer be ok? .  Would it be best to forget about the fertilizer,  apply a selective wedkiller for the weeds, iron sulphate for the moss, then run the scarifier over after a couple of weeks reseeding the bare patches?  Any inspirations?!!

  • Many of ours are similar. I don't remember ever returning in the spring and finding so many lawns looking so poor.

The amount of moss in my own lawn this spring was shocking . Very little grass left after scarifying so decided upon complete renovation having a bit more time to spare due to semi retirement so re seeding the whole area .

Interesting though i have had several calls from worried enquirers regarding the state of their lawns , never offered a dedicated lawn service myself i would always recommend customers use the services of lawn professionals often more cost effective with faster results .

It's been the same problem in my area.

It's been difficult to do any scarifying because been to wet and it's still to cold to so lawn seed.

I normally like to scarifi then over seed when the soils loose. Just impossible at the moment.

  • Ideally, hollow core, scarify, topdress, oversew, treat with iron & fertilise with low enough nitrogen feed (no feed & weed). Treat for weeds after 4-6 weeks.

    ideally...
