To me it looks like a tension spring off of the levers on the handles. I dont own thie model so could be completely wrong.
Is it under warranty? Can you not take it back.
Even so, it's a simple fix for your local tech.
Yes, the mower has a 2 year commercial warranty. Just want to see if anybody knows what the problem is so I can decide whether or not it is safe to use it tomorrow before I get chance to go to the dealer on Thursday.

Number 22?
Cutter deck counter balance spring looks favorite to me....
Has it received a bump or heavy jolt in storage or transit or has it been dropped?
I agree, it does look like that. No it hasn't been dropped and I wasn't aware it had had any particularly bad bumps other than the usual day to day knocks. At least it's cheap if it is that part!
That's exactly what it was. £5 replacement part and 40 mins or so at my mechanic's and all done. Didn't even bother going back to the dealer. Thanks to all for assistance.
It's an easy fix . Theres a rod the runs from the roller to the front wheels. It goes on the rod . Take blade and rear part of underside deck off , you'll see where it goes . You can run it without the spring till you get a replacement, but you'll notice the machine is heavier to adjust . 15 min job max
