I think COVID has actually wed out some of the cash in hand gardeners doing it on the side out. You will always have the retired civil servants to compete with who's aim is to put the time in rather than make money.
sometimes I get the "oh but my old gardener only charged x" but more often than not people see that I'm offering a professional reliable service and that there is a reason their old gardener is no longer working. Our policy is if the customer can't justify paying us what we need to do the job we don't need to be there!
but yes we could be twice as busy as we are if we could meet the demand and that has been the case for the last number of years and the fact it's still the case tells me that no one is hovering up the surplus demand and everyone is in the same boat
