Large Property Quotation

Hi all. Just wondering how people quote for properties that you'd need to be at for 1/2 day to a full day per week. How much do people take into consideration the lack of driving between jobs, the guaranteed income and that kind of thing?

Obviously we all have to come up with a price we are happy with ourselves and not worry about others pricing, but having never worked at such a large property before I just wondered what others who are more used to it may factor in when coming up with a quote.

I pretty much specialize in 4hr slots weekly and fortnightly. Never ever a full day anymore in one garden, a pain to replace if things go south.

Some would say I'm wrong, but I just charge a day rate including grass/Sometimes hedges depending on the customer and the garden eg: I have one garden that needs to be weekly but is fortnightly so he will be getting a price for the hedges.

This is why: The work is all year round with Xmas tips holiday pay plus booze. There is plenty of opportunity to up sell on small landscape projects with mark up on materials, lawn treatments, green waste removal, plants etc etc, often done in extra hrs.

Once your in your in, trusted/ respected. No haggling, no going to see shit garden's. Bread n butter money.

I do, do priced stuff as well- landscaping/fencing, end of season garden tidy's and hedges that do every year at top rate. I also have a small mowing round.

    • Around my way the "day per week" domestic client type of jobs never want to pay proper money. They would rather have somebody there on a minimum kind of wage 3 days a week to do the same amount of work. But am sure this varies by client demographic/area

Yep, the same out my way. It's a perticuler type of wealthy person that likes to employ a friends eastern European opare for £8perhr cash, then refer to them as there slaves!

I've not had any dealings with anyone like that since 2017 so hopefully that has change.

I met a Hungarian self employed gardener a while back. He said he can only get £18 because he's Hungarian, I told to have some self respect and don't work for people like that.

        • WHAT?!
          £18 per hour??
I would love to get paid that!

          • we are all on £60 an hour here Andrew, or aiming for close to it

            • Are you in london to be charging £60 an hour / £480 a day?

              • sorry clive, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek, the £60 p.h. target is a long running thing on here lol
