I am trying to book the Lantra one day pole saw course including assessment during the training for people who have already completed the basic chainsaw training and assessment.

This is proving to be rather a challenge as the trainers need four people to train to make running the course worthwhile.

When I went to Saltex at the NEC and spoke the lady from One Ash Training from Widnes on their stand and again by email this morning, she is trying to put a course on if there’s enough interest.

It is at least two hours driving for me each way, but doable and the most promising offer yet, so if any of you want to do it it may be possible it will go ahead.

  • Surely you don't need a training course for that if you've done a chainsaw course?  I'd say  you're far less likely to harm  yourself with a polesaw.

I never knew a polesaw course existed but obviously it is designed to satisfy the felling and lopping criteria on most P.L insurance policies but would think the lantra chainsaw certificate covers this , I would check first you may be already covered .

The full pole saw course is two days to include maintenance of the machine and saw, however if you  have done the chainsaw certificate you have already covered that, so this is the shortened version of the course.

If you want the C&G you then have the issue of arranging a separate assessment,  which is another issue, as you are back to trying to find enough people to make it worth it for the assessor.

    • Can't really imagine what they can teach you that commonsense doesn't!!  I'd save your money.

The City and Guilds NPTC pole saw assessment sheets are available online and indicate which parts can be omitted if the candidate has a chainsaw certificate.

As I said above I am trying to book the Lantra course which is assessed whilst training, rather than having to arrange a separate assessment on another day.

I have completed the Lantra Polesaw training course today, I ended up doing it at VMT Training at Islip near Kettering at the farm where Harrowden Turf have their depot.

Did you find anything new that you didnt know or did you take the course for your public liability?
