  • The homeowner must have been terrified by this.  There's no excuse to behave like that.

  • When I first started 30 years ago . Customer on a fence job tried to chisel me ... walked to the van took sledgehammer out and smashed 2 concrete  posts right at the bottom . Wrong of me? Maybe . A bit younger then . But renaging on  payment is unacceptable.

What we don't have is the client's version of events so it's hard to make a sound judgement.

What is clear, however, is that someone else started the work and the landscape business in the video took over. Why?

There are channels open that allow proper collection of debts i.e. through the small claims court. Wrecking the garden in the way this business owner has done has removed any chance of getting any of the money back.

IMO has also damaged his reputation.

I heard a story about an electrician who had doubts about getting paid when the job was finished, so made and wired in a little box of electronic bits and pieces that allowed the electrician to drive past the house and trip the electric off with a remote control.

The chances of another electrician ever finding this box when testing for faults was highly unlikely.

I would love to know how the electrician convinced the customer that they had a magical influence over what went on in their house and the apparently random tripping of the electrics would stop if they paid their bill, without actually letting on that they had installed a means of tripping it with a remote control or the customer arguing that they should not pay because of the random tripping.

Some years ago I met a skip company boss who had been done for fly tipping.

A skip was delivered and a cheque taken in payment, the customer immediately filled the skip and it was collected at the end of the same day. A couple of days later the skip company found out the cheque had bounced, so tried to get paid again. After a couple of weeks the boss drove a skip wagon around the the customers house and emptied the skip on the customers drive and told them they didn’t owe him any money any more as they had got their rubbish back instead.

It went to court with th skip guy charged with fly tipping, the judge said had he taken the customers own rubbish back he would have been okay, but because it was a different skip of rubbish it was fly tipping and fined him £12,500 with expenses etc.

He ended up putting the firm into bankruptcy to avoid paying the fine and restarting as a new company, which all got very, very messy.

When you cannot pay your mortgage or buy food because someone owes you thousands of pounds it is easy to have a “mad moment” but doing so can cause further problems.

  • I know a builder who years ago had an unpaid bill which he could not get settled.

His course of action was to tape a can of expanding foam to the clients exhaust pipe one night. Apparanltey the foam worked right the way up into the engine.

This builder is now also a special constable!!!

  • What will happen if this goes to court I wonder???..  let it be a lesson in this day and age not to do stupid things, no matter how aggrieved you may feel and we have all been there.
