Taking the path of least resistance

During last week's LJN13 Tour, we discussed LJNs brief history and its social strengths.

Bearing in mind the thousands and thousands and thousands of forum threads and (important) live chats we've had over the years discussing the future direction of LJN and how it should be managed, we simply couldn't avoid the conversation coming back to basics and we all (I think??) agreed that one of LJNs major strengths is that no small group has succeeded in steering the site in a direction this association didn't wish to travel.

LJN has merely meandered though the path of least resistance: it is where it is because it's where the majority has passively steered it - it's the same social model we adopt in tangible life...our only difference is we are disparate and online.

Our success hasn't been engineered, it's evolved. Our members have been the force that has pushed the practitioner to the forefront of the landscape industry.

It's our loyal members who have taken the initiative away from those who sought to control and returned it to those who seek to succeed. It is knowledge transfer that's our future, not knowledge control.

If LJN were to take a left or right turn in the near future it's because our social collective has dictated it.

What is certain....an unelected committee would be a dangerous development.
