Ladies workwear

On behalf of the missus...Do any of the ladies on the board recommend any particular workwear brands. She's had a look at Dickies, Engelbert-Strauss and Craghoppers, and isn't greatly impressed at the selection of ladies trousers on offer. She's looking for trousers and polo shirts.

  • fraid i've been looking for years and don't find any of the workwear brands any good, - particularly if like me, you are a curvier ladies shape.
I use walking gear, and have found that lightwight hiking trousers are the best and last the longest. e.g Rohan.
these are similar to the latest ones i've got, - they last a couple of years with several washes a week, so worth the extra price
For t shirts, - I try the maternity section!, - they are usually long enough not to ride up and show large expanses of back when weeding

Trouser-wise it's CragHoppers as I'm reliably told the ladie's sizes do fit well. We get ours from : http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/womens (we've a big store nearby at Basingstoke, but they do mail order ??)

Have a look at their Ladies section, if not Craghoppers the look as they may have something else. It's down to shape !!!
  • Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have been looking closely at the Garden Girl site, which proclaims their products are designed by women, for women. Unfortunately their fabric pattern choices make them unsuitable for professional use - pink roses and toile isn't the look we're going for!

Also spotted Blåkläder from Sweden, who make a heavy duty ladies gardening trouser, but apparently not in long leg lengths.

If anyone from the major workwear clothing manufacturers is reading, there's a gap in the market here!
  • hiya- i dont really do brands but do try to get the best i can afford. have a karrimor fleece which i love- its so warm but lightweight and fits well.
boots vary- i always just keep trying them on- berghaus or brasher have always been favourites of mine. when i started off i used to wear my steelies but they are so heavy i now just work in a decent pair of walking boots
my last walking shoes were meindl (expensive but i got them in the sale) and they are the most comfortable shoes i've ever had- but i do only wear them for light duties!!
  • Hi, I wear snickers ladies fit work trousers. They are designed so that you can put knee pads in. They took a bit of getting used to as your knees look three times bigger than normal. But thats all forgotten when i Kneel on the ground and my knees are cushioned. i've had my trousers nearly six months and haven't put a hole in them which is a record. They cost about £50 so quite pricey but they wear well and look professional. Also they have loads of pockets which is great for collecting up random bits of string and wire.
