Kohler courage engines

I'm considering buying an Etesia duocut 46 mower. It comes with the Kohler courage 6.75 engine. Now I've heard of Kohler but have no experience of their engines. Are they any good? Better than Briggs? Probably not as good as Honda?

I think there are a lot of myths as far as engines go.
Kohler have made some cracking engines and so have Briggs and Honda and Kawasaki and Mitsubishi and others
It's all about how much they cost.
A cheap Honda gc will not last as long a gx
A Briggs on a £300 mower will not last like thier vanguard engines..
    And so it goes on.
I think most modern engines if looked after will outlive the machine they sit on..

I love the Kohler engine on my Etesia Duocut! So far been reliable, starts first pull, quiet, good torque.

It has only been a couple of months so can't really say much yet. My part timer prefers it to the Kawasaki that's on the turf master
    • Good to know James. How fast does the Etesia go. Is it walking pace or slower? My Honda was quite slow. Also what is the Kohler like on fuel? I have chance of a brand new Etesia Duocut single speed for £799. Can't find it cheaper anywhere else.

I didn't pay that for mine (less from a local dealer)

It's an ok walking pace. I get a good solid hour out of it mulching. Fuel economy has improved as I run it in :)
        • Cheers. That price is from my local dealer. Can't find it cheaper locally or online. How much did you pay. I may be able to barter a bit more

I can't actually remember but have the invoice on my desk somewhere. Maybe try and get the first oil change or service for free??

That surprises me as the fj180 is supposed to be bomb proof.
It's supposed to be as good or better than the Honda gx models.
What does he not like about it?
On the subject of the turfmaster is it any good? Been thinking all last year about getting one

It's bomb proof but can be a little underpowered for tough stuff. It's a fantastic machine but takes some getting used to as the handles are longer and it's heavier. Leaves a reasonable striped finish. I find it a great but if kit on sites where trees are present as it's more manoeuvrable than a lawn tractor

The fj180 kai (at least the US version) has a problem where it eats its air filters and kawasaki are not going to fix it.

          Oh really??

Having some fuelling issues currently but think that's more the fuel filter not having a high enough flow rate
