Km94

Evening.

Has anyone experienced running problems with the km94 rc? It will run two days no problems 4+ hours a day, then it's a new day runs a couple of hours and starts running really badly, switch it off for 10 minutes starts no problem and runs good then on.

ive had a geniune carb fitted, still doing it and my dealer thinks it could be the coil, but if it were the coil I thought it would be getting worse and worse, but this is a couple of weeks now and still the same.

Any ideas or help appreciated.

Thanks.

I have to have 2 new carbs fitted  by the dealer on mine they are made of cheese, mine is not working again and I'm not throwing anymore money at it. It's only 18 months old.

    • New carb 10 days ago. So I'm thinking if I spend the money on the coil and it ain't that, I've got a machine with new parts on it that doesn't do the job.

Has the machine had a new spark plug fitted? A small piece of carbon rattling round in the spark plug 'nose' gives exactly the syptoms you describe - had it twice this week myself oddly as it hasn't happened for a good while!

    • New plug also fitted as well. Thanks

  • Coils can have an intermittent problem......I'd buy a new coil.... about £50.  Open the box carefully so if it doesn't do the trick, you can resell it on Ebay as "new" without losing much money.  Funnily enough, I picked up a replacement carb for my FS94 a few weeks ago....... £9 including postage from China............. works fine though took 4 weeks to arrive. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any cheap Chinese coils for the KM94 that I can see.

  • I know this was posted last year, but similar problems here.  How did you get on with it in the end?.

Got a 14 month old KM94RC.  Thing works fine then won't rev, then stalls and won't restart.  Eventually restarts cold and revs but won't rev as it gets warm.  Then seemingly OK again a few days later.  It has gotten so bad that I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, but nothing really wrong with it other than the diaphram getting baggy.  When it gets warm it stalls and will not restart, so I'm thinking bad coil, but with a new spark plug it's still sparking strong after it has stalled when cranking it's not backfiring at all before it stalls, so can't see it's the coil going bad as it heats up, although it must be.

Sounds like a coil to me. Get your self a multi meter from screw fix for a tenner. There's videos on YouTube that shows you how to test them.

Have you been cutting hedges at all with it as mine had an issue with low revs and stalling due to debris in the clutch at the front.

    • Hi Sam

I've missed you're question,  yes it was a coil problem.

  • Erm. I measured the resistance of the coil

Primary: 1670 k ohms (On the 2000k ohms setting on multimeter)  1,670,000 ohms

Secondary 2.01 k ohms (On the 20k ohms setting on the meter)  2010 ohms

    Thinking it's a little knackered?

Guess they don't like being run hot and only last a year or so. :(  Still getting blue spark though eh.

I keep the engines fairly clean these days, away from the grass and cuttings in the tipper. I put them in the crew cab of the Transit now, since I've had two chainsaws and a long reach nicked off the back of the truck and the final straw was an MS260 off the back of the truck whilst stuck in traffic on the way to work.  They're also quite clean because Stihl's these days just don't seem to last very long before they go wrong and are down.
