We use a 115mm grinder blade to mark the top of the slab and then cut the rest from the underside with the sthil saw. Where a perfect uniform pointing gap is required that can't be easily measured (e.g. curves in two directions) we make a cardboard stencil. I hope that is of some small use.

Rob, I did try cardboard stencils on a really trick one once and it worked well, I even wondered if it was worth making sets of cardboard sheets matching common slab sizes to use more often.
Worth a try Andy but in my van a cardboard stencil would last about a week before it disintegrated. Maybe my van needs a tidy.
