I read that anyone with the necessary electronic kit, can start the engine by duplicating a spare key via the OBD socket! you obviously need the right software etc, but this is how many newer cars are now professionally stolen if access to the actual keys i.e. breaking into the house is the harder option!
Very sad...... I had a trailer nicked a few weeks back and it is really gutting..... cost me £1200......... as with all these things, I've learnt a hard lesson and installed a ground anchor in the driveway + a huge chain/lock.....somethingI should have done before.
It really is madness though to leave thousands of pounds of equipment sitting in a van overnight..... how much time did he really save by leaving the pricey stuff in the van I wonder?
More here.... makes sobering reading / watching especially if you drive a Transit :(
You're right there....... there's even some fascinating youtube videos showing how they all work..... clever stuff and cheap too. Nothing is safe. The only good thing that I could see is that it doesn't beat the immobilizer so hopefully, they won't nick the van as well.
because the funding the get from central gov is being cut.. Our local council tax is increasing so we get more officers.
Perhaps if you said you thought a child was grabbed and thrown in the back, you'd have half a dozen cars with the blue lights on the case:) Nothing to lose really...... if they find the van you just say you must have made a mistake...... if they don't find it, no problem:).
Had what I thought was a good idea whilst watching an abysmal football game on tv! Realised that in 10 years of owning my Transit Connect van, I'd never used the key to gain entry to the rear/side doors..... always used the remote. . Got hold of a couple of strips of metal about 4" x 2"..... I cut some out from a large garden gate hinge............ bent them slightly to fit nicely and then just pop-riveted them over the lock barrel top and bottom (coach bolts would be better really though as more secure). Painted them with some white Hammerite and should certainly stop the lock picking techniques . If the worst happened and the central locking fails, an angle grinder should remove the plate quite quickly.
