Hi David, I've spoken with my local Etesia dealer and another local shop. Basically looks like they can get a stator but flywheel looks tricky. Stator is under £100 but flywheel if available is nearer to £300 and I'd have to wait. Have quite a bit of work I need to get on with using the machine so don't want to be waiting weeks for parts.
Have looked into a new Kawasaki engine as the rest of the mower works fine and spending just over £1K on a new engine seems to be more sense than £400 on a 900 hour -17 year old one but have a feeling the plastic body work on the newer hydro 80s is curved to make space for the newer Kawasaki engines.
Have tried to repair the stator but when the magnet in the flywheel broke up it damaged some of the windings creating the short, blowing the fuse.
Could put a new stator in and hope the magnet in the flywheel holds up but if it continues to break up then it'll just be money wasted. Hence just hoped someone had an old engine or machine they were breaking!
Thanks
Have you had a look for 2nd Hand Hydro 80's if you're short and you could either pinch parts from it or simply use it, especially as yours is 17 years old!
A quick search brings upn this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353660998008?hash=item5257d69178:g:kecAA...
Might be worth a look (at this and perhaps if there are any others!)
