I've thought about this myself. Weed treatments, not how to post in the right area, lol!
Domestic is a dead loss IMO. By the time you've explained why you need to charge for your expertise, training and duty of care, they've bought a pre-mixed pack of Roundup from B&Q for a fiver and treated the drive.
I posted last year about the added value to commercial clients, where spraying legally actually counts for something. I was worrying about being seen as expensive on a job where the hourly rate seemed high. When the client needs a professional in order to supply a service that indemnifies them, you can charge a proper rate.
I'd look around for small commercial sites, not domestic.
It seems the only way to post to multiple categories Phil is to hold down CTRL and then click the categories you want to post to.
I've learnt something new tonight, I wasn't aware that was possible but it does makes sense, sometimes, to post a discussion into different places. In fact I've often thought that some topics ought to be placed in more than one category.
Hi Philip.
I get those thoughts all the time when I just pass a driveway that has multiple weeds growing like a scene from I Am Legend, it always gets my "side line" juices flowing.
Half of me wants to knock on the door and ask if they would like a weed control service, the other half agrees with Paul regarding the fact that eventually the male occupant of the house will get fed up with the missus moaning at the state of the drive and go buy the over the counter weed killer and spray them just before a torrential downpour!
I still think there is a small opportunity for such a service in the private area, but it would take a lot of hit and miss leg work searching for the applicable clients & getting them to sign up to such a service.
One of my previous domestic clients used to get someone in to spray the whole place with residual, Think it used to cost her around £120 for the one off at the start of the year.
We consider it all part of the job on our private or commercial contracts. We maintain acres of block paving by monthly spot weed killing with Roundup Bio - trafficked area stay relatively weed free, so it's not as bad as it sounds. I do not like residual weedkillers being used on paving, because of run off into drains and soaking into the groundwater.
Have never thought of 'offering' a separate service, but I can see problems ahead, unless you make monthly visits. As we all know that following a rain, little seedlings will soon appear - cue phone call and as I have said residual weedkillers are a no, no for me.
