"It could be the death of 95% of all nurseries"...

...writes Noel Kingsbury in his blog and in the Telegraph. He clearly explains what the proposed new European legislation would mean for our small nurseries.

I think the European Union is a good thing. It has promoted peace and prosperity for our continent for half a century. However it does have an intensely bureaucratic regulatory side however which can work against both prosperity and liberty. A good example is the insane set of regulations being currently proposed for ornamental plants.

You can read about it in the Telegraph here:

More information here from Plant Heritage, and a useful list of UK MEPs to write to. And more here from Plant Heritage, with MEP contacts for other countries.

It is very important that all of us who are EU citizens to act on this. And soon. There is only a week left for submissions.

  • Simple answer, vote UKIP!

  • Well said Vince.

The EU is an unmitigating disaster the "peace and prosperity" BS is just part of the brain washing pro propaganda.

If you wish to stay in the EU and loose everything then you must be prepared to except BS legislation that they come up with. And it will only get worse there are now 180,000 of these fascists and the number grows daily.

Don't expect any wisdom from our politicians either, the EU is where they go when their political careers fade and make even more money and even bigger pension schemes...

It is something we've looked at a wee while ago on the site, more here:

Proposed EU legislation on Plant Reproductive Material

  • Thanks Craig, sorry if I missed your piece earlier in the year. Deadline for helping to do something about this is end of November. MEPs may be able to influence the decision. See links above to Noel's Telegraph article and the draft letter and lists of MEPS to write to on the Plant Heritage website.
