Is buying a robot lawn mower worth it?

Having seen moderate rise of robot lawn mowers in the market (both domestic and commercial) I was interested when I saw an article/review by Quentin Letts.

Apparently there are only 1,000 robot mower units bought in the UK, compared to 200,000 for the whole of Europe.

"I like cutting my own grass, leaving my own stripes on the lawn, inhaling the sweet smell of fresh cuttings and working up a sweat."

But thinking deeper and from a professional contractor's point of view, if robot mowers were to catch on, there would be a lot of garden outfits looking for work.

See the Daily Mail article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2682708/Robo-Flop-Think-1-300-robotic-mower-stress-summer-So-did-QUENTIN-LETTS-one-drove-mad.html

What do you think...fad or serious (business?) proposition.

I think it's only a matter of time before these things become popular as the technology is forever changing and getting cheaper.
