Insurances

Its that time of year for me when all the renewals come in, I started my business, 5 years ago in February.

As usual all the regular bills are coming in this month.

I appreciate different factors make everybodys vehicle insurance a different price but last year I was paying £460 for a 63 Plate MWB Renault Master this year the same company quoted £522,

didnt really think that was so bad considering there was talks of a 61% insurance increase on the the Martin Lewis Money Show. Howeever my wife shopped around on some comparrison sites and

came up with a like for like policy at £420 so it does pay to shop around.

Another insurance I think some people just auto renew is Public Liability, I have PL and Tool insurance with the same company again the last few years Hiscox have just been increasing the price 10%

each year. Thats going to be another job for the Mrs to have a look at. Anyone on here have any suggestions for reasonable prices companies with a good reputation?

Hopefully what I will save on both policies will cover the van tax.

I just renewed my van insurance with avia for £289. Previously with admiral van wanting £420 for this year. On a renault trafic 2013.

I found it even more expensive on comparison site,  the cheapest was £480.

  • Mentioned on here previously we have used the broker Pace Ward in Stoke on Trent for all our commercial insurance, search internet for contact details. Recommend highly for good old fashioned personal service.

You need to be very careful just being price led when buying insurance, a friend in the trade had his Sprinter stolen 18 months ago and has had to go to the Insurance Ombudsman to get a realistic payout. This has caused him massive financial problems and stress, he was insured with a very well known widely advertised provider ,  his business insurance also bought direct he has subsequently found out did not cover him for many risks he needed cover for. Be careful!!

      I hope that wasn't avia!

      • If buying direct I would suggest using Trustpilot to gauge the behaviour of the insurance company when making a claim. They are happy to take your money, different.matter when they have to.pay out. That's why we use a good broker who will fight your corner for you. So.many of the direct sellers have non UK based call centres, good luck with that!

      Peter,

Any insurance will do what they can to not pay out, it doesnt matter if you go with the cheapest or a well known company. I had one of my classics stolen in 2018 a 1962 FHC E-type Jag the Insurance companies did everything to find a loop so they didnt have to pay out. They bought in an assesor, refunded the full policy value. Insurance people are just crooks in suits.

  • as others have said insurance cos will try very hard not to pay out. i had my car damaged by a horse when i was parked up and not in it at the time, the owner gave me his details and he pased it on to his insurance i managed to make contact with them adout it once the rest of the time they would just egnore me or reply to my emails in the end i had to go through my own insurance they got it repaird for me and chased his insurance but in the meantime my insurance wanted renewing but there was a unresolved pending claim marker on me so it doubbled my premium it took 14 months to sort out. got a £300 refund last month so i will be going through a broker nexxt time

My vehicle insurance has doubled to just under £800 with no claims ever in Thirty years of driving    Renewal due Feb I have trawled the comparison sites and cheapest is £427 which I was paying last year with current provider   .

Looking at the small print cover is minimal ,no cover if vehicle is stolen

So many companies on the list of providers I have never heard of and even the trusted names have negative feedback  .

Customers report unable to get through on the phone or upload proof of no claims bonus which adds a penalty .

Long waits for vehicles repairing and even long waits for courtesy cars it seems to be luck of the draw .

Public liability policy had increased by 200%

I have always insured with company's who don't appear on comparison sites but seems loyalty does not pay , I always liked the fact I could receive and send paper documents through the post .

I am not convinced cheapest is best though it seems like a quick fix , a reaction to panic but equally not convinced that those inflating their prices have any integrity .

Just too much money grabbing today from providers in all areas who seem to assume the public and business owners have bottomless pits

      • Just my point to use a broker who will have a lot more influence than you and someone on your side. Heard a story this week from an acquitance, a chap went to one of the insurance companies who advertise widely to insure his house, he had a large claim which the company would not pay on. What they did not know that he was a senior partner in a listed law firm , he wrote to them telling them this and said it would go legal if they did not pay in 48 hours and because of his position it would not cost him anything to persue them through the courts. Guess what they paid up in 24 hrs. They rely on people being put off by large legal bills to pursue them.

Been insured with the NFU for years. Had the misfortune to have to claim twice (both motor claims). Both sorted quickly, efficently and without too much stress.

Not cheap but extremely helpful and went above and beyond in one case by ugrading my courtesy vehicle to a 4x4 for a week without charge due to a delay in a repair.

    • I agree with Adam i'm with the NFU and have been for 20 years and they may not be the cheapest but when i've had a bump just phoned up asked a couple of questions and they did the rest no hassle or stress, also we have an office in our town so i can speak and see real people,
