I am not so sure there are 'many' who offer insurance backed guarantee - we will see. I certainly have never felt the need, which certainly focuses the mind on not cutting corners! We do carry Product Liability, which insures us against things beyond our control.
Hi Michael, what situation might you want that in case of? My understanding is that it covers your customers should you cease trading? I.e. something goes wrong 10 years down the line after you've stopped working?
Public liability (or professional indemnity if you're designing etc) would cover you years down the line providing you're still working?
I have never felt the need too, but as we want to apply for various memberships like APL and Marshall's maybe one or two more I thought this will be necessary. However if they don't require Insurance backed guarantee then I won't bother. We have Public Liability so perhaps this will do.

I could be mis-reading your question, but it is the Associations who offer this facility to THEIR members at a cost. You don't need to offer it yourself to be one of those members AFAIK.
Always confuses me as to why this should be offered by them....
