  • I was recommended insurance Octopus by a plumber friend so went with them

  • My public liability insurance has always been with the same insurer. Different brokers over the years, but the same underwriter/insurer.

    The company is CoVea.

I have one million cover, which is all I need. It is £74.10 for the year. Actually, it has always been about this price. It’s one of the few things that has never gone up. This price includes sub-contractor cover, although of course they also have their own insurance.

The people I went through are ‘Simply Business’.

As an interesting aside, those who know me are aware that I mainly do commercial work. But it is only Chatsworth Estate who ever want to see the insurance policy each time it is renewed. They have a minimum five million cover for all contactors, but overrode the system to make an exception in my case, which was nice of them. They said I just didn’t need that level of cover for grass cutting and as I had only ever had one million cover, that was plenty good enough. It’s nice to see flexibility and common sense in action.

The Council I work for only asked to see the policy when I first started contracting for them in early 2018. They have never asked for any renewal documents since then.

Another Council I used to work for only asked to see insurance at the start and then never asked me about if for the next eleven years.

No one else has ever asked to see my insurance at all, no business/company or PCC. That is in 31 years.

I have always had insurance and I am not trying to say otherwise. But it is interesting that no one seems to care very much about it. Given the world we live in, this is quite odd.

  • A-plan, as a broker they will tailor your needs & find you a good quote.
