I haven't watched the whole video so forgive me if this was mentioned in it, but just because you have 30 years experience and can get 10 refferrals it doesn't nescessarily mean you are "elite" or even very good.  It would be interesting to see how they actually vet new members.

When at college, I found parts of the industry to be somewhat "old fashioned".  As an ex-production manager and a technical and very detailed person, I have tried my best to embrace technology and also advances in machinery, tools and therefore working methods.  We offer an efficient and high quality service.  Does that make us less "elite" than someone who has a shed load of qualifications and pruned fruit trees professionally for 25 years?

Is it not the same or similar as the gardeners guild? I’m not sure any clients would of heard of any of the horticultural associations so not sure of the value to our business?

About the only recognised association i can think any client might be aware of gardening wise would be the RHS ? And even then - how many clients ask about those or require those? Sure its handy to have RHS accreditation to progress quickly but hardly essential.

Ive looked at the gardeners guild a few times and seems to be a great association - but once again outside the industry whose aware of them ? so therefore what does it add ?

IPGA will be behind the other two and way more expensive so off to a bad start

Personally watching that video was just a wonderfull example of why i work outside -- if i had to spend my work days sat in rooms like that id be on meds by next tuesday. Quality watching the faces of the two guys sat at the table wishing they were anywhere else in world but there !

Membership costs £180.00 per annum (includes vetting).

  • I have watched all the video [very bad audio], and it doesn't do it for me at all.

Firstly, as someone who has been in this industry since 1985 and self employed since 1991, I don't need or want to be validated by any self appointed external body. I have been succesful under my own stewardship, hard work and do have the proper, desirable kind of validation, that is many happy clients over many years and some very good contracts.

So what would be the gain to me? Speaking of gain, 200 x £180 is £36000.

Of course, having good contacts and knowing the right people is good business sense. But after all these years I already have that network in place.

    I wish them well.

      • Yep I doubt there would be many people in any business who would hear that and go "a ha, I get it now "!

      I think you have it in the 3rd para.... 200 x £180 = £36K a year one assumes :)
