Please please help

What is the plant in the picture which has the lovely big green leaves. I'v egot to trim it tomorrow and without knowing what it its called I'm slightly up the creek. I know what it is, I just can't remember what its called to search what to do to trim it.....

I hope you can help :)

  • looks like some sort of Iris, i would divide it rather than trimming it.

    I'm so frustrated I can't remember what its called. I've looked up Iris and can say from my findings, its not an Iris, thanks though

    Is it a type of calamus ? Or carex
  • Could it be Hemerocallis (day lily?).  I'd go also with thinning it rather than trimming.

    Is it Lucifer if so it is just a case of thinning out as others have mentioned,

  • Pretty certain it's a hemerocallis - I would leave it until the leaves have started to die back, then cut it back to the ground. If it hasn't flowered, then it probably needs dividing, which I would do in the spring. If its an iris, then ditto!
