I am looking at buying an IFOR Williams trailer and have seen one on Ebay that would do the job. I am a little dubious about buying from private individuals in case I end up with a stolen trailer! Are there any checks that can be done prior to purchase to minimise the risk of it coming back to bite me?

  • To throw it out their, I've just brought a paxton trailer - not ifor but I am impressed by the quality - Under £900 for a 7x4 and its solid and well designed, and so could be an option for you. I know of two others on here wh0 have got similar trailers from them/

  • When I was looking for an IW trailer it worked out better to buy new for me. The used prices are so strong that there was little difference between a new one, I got the mesh sides thrown in, and a ten-year-old one that might have had any amount of use. Factoring in a service, perhaps brakes etc., and it was almost cheaper to buy new!

I'd beware of any that are too cheap, get a receipt and proper address etc., and call IW with the serial number (on a plate), and chassis number (on the towbar bit at the front) to check if it's on their reported stolen list.

  • I was looking for a ifor Williams plant trailer last year,I had a budget of £1500, I looked on eBay and gumtree, went to look at a few but they turned out to be quiet rough and over prices for the ages, one was a 2001 and they wanted £1200 for it. I ended up going to a ifor Williams dealer near me on the of chance there would be a couple of used trailers for sale. I spotted a 2010 8x4 plant trailer that looked split new, I asked how much there would take for it, expecting them to say £2000, but low and behold I got it for £1500. It turned out the trailer was returned to the dealer due to the original buyer going into liquidation. It had only been used once.

Needless to say I was well chuffed, so don't disregard the dealers:-)

Oh a way to tell the age of a ifor Williams trailer, the month and year are stamped on the wheels.
