I've just been servicing my 15 year old 18" Masport Rotarola..... I'm sure it doesn't get the use your machines do Gary but must do 5 hours a day for 7-8 months of the year on mainly domestic gardens. I can pick it up to lift it into the van, the transmission system to the roller is a simple belt/tensioner and it just goes on and on...... even had the same belt for the last 5 years. Servicing/maintenance costs are minimal and no corrosion with the alloy deck. Have just picked up a "spare" brandnew one for £400 on Ebay as they don't make this model anymore though I wonder if I'll ever need it. On the contrary, I have a 21" Kaaz.......... have had to do the gearbox a couple of times in the last 5 years and its had far less use. Its too heavy to lift and the handles have broken twice as well! Why can't they keep things simple?
I'd bet an Etesia with a roller-drive would be just add the same problems as the Honda types have: weight, complexity and costly repairs.
Perhaps a 21" Hayter with a Honda engine? All I hear is how good the Hayters are but how useless the engine is.
What about an Etesia with wide wheels? My only complaint with mine is the narrow wheels leaving ruts when it's wet, which is exactly when I need it!
