I secretly quite like the cold - Is it just me?

I secretly quite like the cold.  And frost and snow and things.  But I like looking at it from the inside.    The prospect of not being able to leave the house, just nestling in with no option but to watch the snow - is quite appealing!  .Is it just me (closet agoraphobic landscape designer -not a good mix..!)

My Frosted Echinaceas from last week (I did manage to tiptoe out into the garden to take a snap of their lovely heads)  *skulks back to fire, laptop and dog*

Ha - My Springer Spaniel, Billy, is a bit of a namby I'm afraid. We have to boot him out for walks if it's very cold or he just likes to stretch out by the fire! And he's from a working line as well so should really be an outdoors boy..

  • I am a sun-lover. yes, a clear crisp day can be nice, but definitely not all this snow.

Bring on the days of scorching sun beating down on your neck, shading your eyes from the sun and drinking ice cold beers in the garden or park.

It's been like this since Friday:

  • When you have snow like the photos above you actually can't do most of the work you would normally do. I can't even do hedges as it would mean a real messy clear-up job that's never going to be done right. I have not been advertising snow clearance as there are jack the lads doing it for a fiver and I don't need it, but I am finding it really hard to sit at home and effectively do nothing!

Brigitt, I don't know the numbers but we have had a LOT of snow. We have never had this in November as long as I have been alive, and even at that we have rarely had this much snowfall at any time. It's not very cold though, only between 1 and -4/-5. Some of the nearby higher areas are much colder at night, but we don't feel the effects of that.

I can't be doing with it as I like to keep active.

I've got a few jobs booked in for the next week or so but know that most of them will end up looking like a monkey's bum if I try doing them with snow on the ground.

Was watching a couple of lads clearing the car park from the comfort of my local gym and they were peeing into wind trying to keep it clear. I've even rejoined the library in readiness for if the white stuff does not go away !!!
  • I don't mind the low temperatures but the white stuff is a pain. I like to hit the allotment or ride my road bike in any spare time I get and that's not a great prospect when everywhere is deep in snow.
  • I love this weather. I like taking a nice long afternoon walk with the dogs, Thetford Forest is stunningly beautiful when it's frosty and amazingly silent (until I get there), then I come home with rosy cheeks and a drippy nose to enjoy a BIG mug of hot chocolate before rustling up something incredibly fattening for tea - steak and kidney pud is my absolute favourite.
  • No I don't like it.
Snow = no work = no money.
I'll lose close on £800 this week, no fun just before Christmas.
As Dan said the snow here is the worst i can remember, no chance of doing any outdoor work.
I travelled to a job today 10 miles north of Dunblane and the snow was level with my wing mirrors on the verge!!!!!
  • Love the snow, im an all weather gardener, crisp cold mornings, snow crunching under your feet, great, can be a pain on the gardening side as you cant get much done, although its great doing tree wwork, your up in the trees and you can see the snow capped landscape.
