  • get anothger HS81r, nothing else comes close and 3 years is ok for hard commercial use. think about it, thats only £148.33 +VAT per year, a few jobs and its paid off!

    £330 +vat
  • bit far from me though im in bristol !  ill ring my local dealer on monday and see about this price maybe he gave the wrong price  to my brother in law when he poped in to pick up a new strimmer head for me

  • frjones will send Stihl items out once you have established you are bonafide landscaper, eg by supplying copy of insurance.

HS45 at half the price takes a lot of abuse and you can replace it twice as often. I bought one in an 'emergency' 15 years ago and have had about 5 since. Two other cheapy makes I puchased during this time were nothing like as good.  Funnily enough though I prefer the Echo when it comes to a long reach trimmer.

  • Your link looks to be broken for some reason, Tony! Could be the rogue full stop before 'http'.

  • Been using the HS81T and R 24 and 30 inch blade for years now. I doubt any other hedge trimmer on the market can come close! I have use of the HS45 but find in vibrates too much for me. The 81R 24 inch is unreal in terms of performance and cut width, It will easy cut through 30mm of dead wood

  • i ordered one today 408 quid :)

Slightly off topic but i'm wondering what peoples views are to long reach as opposed to  standard hedge cutters?

  • I need both. Did a massive privet hedge today, and it would have been from both sides instead of from one without the long-reach; saving probably an hour, plus needing access to the neighbours.  I run the long-reach along the top "corner", top and side, all the length of the hedge, then along the bottom to get the awkward bottom bits. The top is quicker with the long-reach, but the sides are far, far quicker with the standard.

Also helps to have two just in case one breaks; at least you can finish a job in most cases, rather than having leave it in a mess.

  • Like paul i can face a hedge so much quicker with a standard type. I also use my standard echo for the tops as it is single sided with a cutting deflector and means you don't have to pick/rake the cuttings off which saves time greatly. I only use the long reach where i can't reach with the normal one. sometimes i will use it for trimming shaped shrubs as the shorter blade and slightly finer teeth make it better for that.
