Hyundai chippers

Hi does anyone have experience or comments of using the Hyundai petrol shredder chippers, I'm looking to purchase a shredder/chipper and these appear good value with a long warranty thanks

  • Think twice if I were you ! Look at Hyundai garden equipment reviews on Trust pilot! The second review in is concerning a faulty shredder.

Our local grounds machinery repair business had one of their mowers in for repair , it had basic design faults and parts were extremely difficult to source with the importer refusing to recognise the faults. They now refuse to undertake any repairs on Hyundai equipment,  the machines are primarily Chinese not Korean with the inevitable issues. As they don't have a dealer network as such I wonder whether the warranty is worth the paper it's written on ?

If your budget is tight I'd buy a used Eliet chipper, yes they have their shortcomings in so much they don't like sappy green waste but mechanically they are bomb proof and parts easy to source. We have a 20 year old Eliet Major which has been used commercially and generally abused in general,  the only money spent on it has been 2 sets of blades, even the drive belts are original!

Plenty of clean Eliet Majors on ebay at around £1k. The later models have a raised discharge chute as opposed to the earlier models which discharge  onto the floor. Unlike other manufacturers it's very simple and quick to unblock by removing the screen.

    • Thanks for observation I have hired Eliot in the distant past can't remember which model feed was about waste height, and upright stance looking for something around 2k that draws waste in rather than stand there pushing in Need's to cope with greenery as well any advice gratefully received

      • Clive, think you'll struggle at that price level to find anything with feed rollers. The Eliet Pro does have them, a dealer friend  did have a used one, I'll ask if still available and let you know

        • Ok thanks may look at hiring again as and when needed, you know what it's like buy kit only for it to sit around not earning money thanks

    Hello Clive,

First of all, Peter has given you a very good answer.

I'm afraid that buying cheap machinery for commercial use, rarely works. You're much better off investing in a machine that is designed for more commercial use. I have heard excellent reports about the Eliet chippers. My brother actually purchased a second-hand Eliet Chipper for his large garden, he has been delighted with the results. I guess he has probably had it for around four years now.

Be aware that Hyundai products only carry a three-year warranty for domestic use. If you are using their machines commercially, you will only have 12 month warranty.

I always tell people to buy the best machine that they can afford, it works out cheaper in the long run. It's also a much better experience when you purchase a quality product that you may be using for several hours a day.

    • Thanks I guessed what you both say is what I was already thinking, as I only use Stihl and John Deere at the moment think hiring chipper again will be the way to go

       many thanks

We have a mower and the multitool. Had no real issues with either. Quite heavy but other than that good back up machinery and it always starts no issues. The mower we needed a new belt and cover, we contacted Genpower who presumably are the importers and they sent out with no issues very quickly. The polesaw attachment, one of the bolt carriers on the head unit sheared, there was probably 3 days left on the warranty, and they sent a whole new pole and saw attachment not just the part that was needed. No problems making contact and no quibbling and fixing the problems. That was our personal experience of Hyundai garden equipment.

Personally find the Chinese are getting pretty good at making things, and Hyundai are a big company who wouldnt put their name to something that would damage their reputation and not likely to disappear over night. Stihl and Husqvarna make machinery in China and components for machinery assembled in other countries in China.

So no experience of the chipper per se but general experience of the things tried has been good with decent back up.

    • I can't answer for the chipper. I did look at them a few years ago, but, the problem was finding a dealer locally. I spoke to my dealer the other month and he stated that he had just taken on the dealership for Hyundai. In his opinion, the fact that Hyundai offer such a good warranty is testament itself as to the quality of the product. If something goes wrong, quite simply take it back and it will be dealt with. Based on this, I needed a new pressure washer and as it is low budget, went for the petrol Hyundai. Reviews on Amazon were excellent and I have now bought it through the dealer with the added peace of mind that it is covered under warranty.

I appreciate I have changed the topic, but, feel that the warranty is an important factor, which you have identified as a reason for the chipper.

      • Was one of my earlier thoughts but without a local dealer network think the hire when needed be best option thanks gives me a little more to think about.

I would give a reputable landscape supplier site a call for advice also to compare different brands and models , After sales service etc .

Having bought a reliable enough chipper / shredder about Four years ago of a different make , Had no issues with it mechanically but it was just too slow to make it viable to use professionally .

If buying another chipper i would put performance at the top of my list .
