From today's Daily Telegraph: Keep the neighbours quiet with a hush-hush lawnmower You know how it is. Rare summer sun. Birdsong. A cool drink in a peaceful garden. And then the neighbour gets out his mower… But the roar from next door could soon be no more, if the Noise Abatement Society gets its way. It has just awarded its special Quiet Mark to mowers from several manufacturers that make only a quarter of the din of conventional ones. And one, by RoboMow, is no louder than a cooker hood. The result, say their makers – which also include Makita, Stihl and the Grass Group – is that really fervent lawn polishers can get down to it first thing, without waking anyone. Indeed, one says his machine has gone into service at Holyrood House, the Queen’s official Scottish residence, so as not to make uneasy the head that wears the crown. They’ll apparently cost you a bit extra – a professional model from the Grass Group will set you back “£7,500 and upwards”. So how much will people fork out to avoid annoying their neighbours? “I guess it depends on how well they get on with them,” says Mark Earles of Makita. Indeed.
