Could be one of a few possibilities :- tha cable and/or the actuator lever on the gearbox may need adjusting; the gearbox may be low on oil; the clutch and gear wheel may be worn. Does it seem to click or stutter (the drive) when you engage the roller?
If it clicks when engaging the drive then the gearbox is worn out and needs to be replaced. In our experience we would tend to replace the entire back end of the machine every 3-5 years, get another 2 years from a replacement and then scrap the machine.
To replace the bank end of the bachine costs around 1/3 the cost of a new mower.
I have the same repair to do on my hrd.
When you say cost, is that just parts or including labour?
Parts and labour from our main dealer. Dealer cost is around £100 plus vat for their labour.
Ta
If you can get the gearbox off yourself, there is a guy on eBay who refurbishes them for £150, this is about as cheap as you will find.
It is only the clutch and the gear wheel is engages that need replacing, you can get genuine parts for less than £100 if you fancy taking the box apart and doing it yourself, they are very straightforward to work on.
Ta. Yeah I'll be doing it myself. Not done one yet. Was planning stripping down the roller aswell. Looking forward to it when I get time.
I've repaired these gearboxes on my Kaaz mower a couple of times................ usually just 3 parts needed... the pinion, pinion "wheel" and the clutch................. just looked up the prices and you get the lot for about £130. If you're reasonably competent at these things, can be done in a couple of hours. worth checking the roller bearings whilst the thing is apart.
Just to add to the previous comments. If you rebulf the geabox, or replace it, please make sure you also replace the clutch cable at the sme time. ;)
Noticed it was doing this the other day when cutting my own grass, normally the machine is used by my help on a couple of sites and he wouldn't have the foresight to realise it's not working properly. I'll have a good look at it Sunday and perhaps start with the cable
