Lmao! :-)
I always take notice of Micks comments as I have huge respect for his views. His post has prompted me to actually read through a few of the recent threads rather than just looking for threads that I might add value to.
I don't get on here much so I have to ask the question...what the hell is going on with you lot?
This forum used to be able to deal with it's members alternative views, respect each others opinions and arguements were conducted with skill and patience. It was entertaining and inciteful, and frankly it was good fun to be part of. It doesn't appear to be that way any more.
And the predominate reason for this was that everybody was here to help one another. It was a community that may have begged to differ on many things but it united whenever there was a member who needed advice.
Maybe it's my age or rose tinted spectacles but from memory 4 or 5 years ago most of the threads started on this network were about business or members needing help with a specific problem. As I look at the first page of threads tonight 2 out of 10 are of that ilk, the rest are just noise.
It's such a shame because LJN could and should have been so much more by now.
I kind of agree. I can't stand bickering and in-fighting.

I don't think you've considered what you've written properly.
You of all people are surely adult and grown up enough to make your own mind up what is a worthy topic to read, or not?
There are thousands and thousands of pages (85,000 indexed by Google) which are available for everyone to read at any time they want.
It's the only place any member of your industry can get information for free without the obligation to join at a fee. The only site that seeks to help all without any kind of judgement.
I think there are greater issues for you to address ( as per my email to you and your APL colleagues of today) and that's' how an organisation which sets such high barriers of entry can seemingly change the rules at a moments notice to suit its own needs?
Why are there not any other members capable of taking over as APL chairman?
With the greatest respect, I think you need to address the APLs affairs before you criticise LJN members.
Kind regards
Phil

I think one of the dangers with online communities is that the members can become familiar and not afraid to express forthright opinions. Its also much easier to be brutally honest from the safety of your home or office. This can then decend into tit for tat bickering, I have seen it on lots of other online forums. Its damaging to the forums because it puts off new members joining
I'm quite drawn to Daves comment above together with London Stone. We should be reminded about courtesy, appreciating each others views and being tolerant etc.
As for the APL which has just announced the RHS endorsement with regard to Hampton Court 'High impact, Low cost' gardens' and thebAPL's links with the HTA and BALI, their influence can only be on the rise.
Personally I didn't take Daves comments as criticism of the site, more of the members !
Phil,
Well I've been adult and grown up enough to spend an hour this morning writing you a personal email to what I thought was a personal conversation. I now kind wish I hadn't bothered.
For anybody else who is interested my post was simply to express frustration and bewilderment as to why many members on the network seem unable to get on and how quickly threads descend into the tit for tat bickering that is mentioned above. Incredibly Phil then goes and does exactly what I'm talking about!!
LJN is a GREAT network. It's done GREAT things. It's helped to change and modernise many peoples ideas over the last few years. Friendships have been made, ideas and projects created, alliances formed.
And differing views were once treated with respect and defference, not ridicule and critisism.
At the moment I'm really asking myself why I actually care.
For the record I have suggested to Phil that if he really considers the concerns voiced in this thread to be so unacceptable then I will be happy to withdraw from the membership and end my contrubutions to JLN.

Thanks Dave, I'll be in touch but I have to go the the airport to collect someone and then I'm on holiday for 10 days.
I genuinely disagree that LJN has descended into any kind of anarchy. The day I start censoring posts/ disagreements/argument is the day I give up completely.
I'll give you a call on the telephone this afternoon/evening.
Regards
Phil
