If you worked in an office, would you consider investing in pot plants?

It's said that indoor plants can improve wellbeing - just as outdoor plants do - but would you cosider them to be an essential expenditure?

The Welsh government have spent over £100,000 in three years on indoor plants - see here: Welsh Government under fire for spending £100,000 on potted plants.

Wales Online reposts:

"A Freedom of Information request revealed that in 2010-11 the Welsh Government spent £38,240 on potted plants and other decorative fauna. It spent £28,010.91 in 2011-12, £28,591 in 2012-13, and £8,069 to date in 2013-14."

  • About five years ago, I was asked to quote for the maintenance and enhancement of a small court yard for a very large multinational company. It was so small I felt that it wouldn't be worth my while. The HR manager explained that that they wanted a nice quiet area where staff can relax etc and sensing my concern he then said would I do all the in-door plants, this being something that didn't appeal to me I turned them down - biggest regret to date - they had a budget of £15K per year (and that was 5 years ago) and I know the chap who got the contract and boy do I still kick myself.

The multinational company had and still have a policy where they want to create a natural working environment and they firmly believe that by having plants in the offices helps to reduce stress and in-turn improve productivity, mind you they also had a games room and gym! Oh and lots of posters on the wall with every slogan you could think off.

I just wish more companies were this forward thinking as I am now fully geared up to assist them.
