BBC Birmingham's gardening unit is looking for enthusiastic Horticultural Runners to work across a range of prestigious BBC TWO commissions including Gardener's World, RHS Chelsea Flower Show, RHS Hampton Court, RHS Tatton Park, Gardener's World one hour features, and new gardening commissions. Successful candidates will form part of a database of Horticultural Runners that will be kept on file and contacted when an appropriate vacancy arises. Contracts can arise at short notice and the length of contract will vary from just 1-2 weeks to 6 months. Working with the Producers and Series Producers of these projects, you'll be responsible for helping a horticultural research team to set up stories, calling in and collecting plants, horticultural and hard landscaping supplies for the Gardener's World garden at Greenacre, and overseeing hospitality for presenters and production crews. Applicants need to have a passion for gardening and a strong horticultural knowledge that will enable them to identify plants and plant families and recognise the health of specific plants. An understanding of the practical tasks throughout the gardening calendar is also essential. Excellent organisational and communication skills are vital as you'll be working in very small teams, under pressure to generate programme content at short notice. Job Description Job Title: Production Runner (Horticultural) Division: Vision. Factual Birmingham Grade: 2D Aims of the Role The Horticultural Runner will provide accurate, efficient and timely support to the gardening production team, in the office, and/or location. Production work can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and there are pressures caused by tight schedules. Normal office hours will generally apply to the Horticultural Runner role but a flexible approach to working time is required, subject to the BBC’s policies and guidelines. The Horticultural Runner will report to the Series Producer and Horticultural Producer on specific gardening out-put..
