Sounds like either an internal recoil fault or ignition timing problem causing it to fire too early.
I am assuming when you say it pulls the rope out of your hands that it is winding back into the recoil - ie the engine is 'back firing'.
If this is a secondhand machine it may need a full service and the valve clearances doing to be sure that these are not causing an issue. A flooding carburettor might also cause this problem as there will be fuel in the intake when there shouldn't be, which is being fired when it perhaps shouldn't.
Just one question, does the mower start and run without excessive vibration, as I have had this before on a machine with a slightly bent crankshaft....
Any mower dealer will be busy at this time of year, the repair centre I use are on about a 3 week turnaround on 'non emergency jobs'.
thanks for the reply, the mower is only 2 months old, once running no problems, just this starting issue,i took it back a couple of weeks ago ,someone had a quick look but the fault didnt occur.i would have thought that they would have been able to recognise this fault and advise but have never found them very helpful(it is a honda dealer were i bought the mower from).this is my third honda mower, same model,no problems .i am just a little concerned if i could be causing damage by using it with this fault?someone has suggested a valve setting issue?
