Instictively I would always go for the Honda.... but I'd always find a 2nd hand one, Ive never had a Weibang... so cant comment on them
Thank you 🙏
I'm with Adam, no experience of either but based on the grief we give our Honda 537 HRX's would go with the Izy
Thank you 🙏
I bought a Honda IZY brand new 5 years ago. Great engine, but terrible mower- main issues were:
1) plastic shims instead of wheel bearings. These wear really quickly, especially front, and cause wheel wobble.
2) high rate of corrosion on the steel deck- seems to be really cheap steel and rubbish powder coating compared to older Hondas.
3) Grass bag wear at the corners, leads to holes. Fabric bag also clogs quickly, causing rubbish pickup.
i would buy another Honda engine mower, but definitely not an IZY. Of course those things may have been improved by Honda in last few years, but I do t think so.
£400 mower not going to last forever!
I would expect it to last more than a year before having these issues! The Honda IZY is now just an ultra cheap mower with a decent badge, which most definitely was not the case with the older IZY's.
Thann you, how quickly did these things happen? Such a shame I've found that Mountfield and also Hayter had the same wheel issues with their slightly cheaper models.
The mower was less than 1 year old when both front wheels were wobbling. Took it to dealer for warranty claim, which was turned down by Honda. The Dealer told me that it could have been due to damage bumping down steps! It most definitely was not. I ended up drilling out wheels and bodge fitted proper wheel bearings.
The corrosion and grass bag issues started soon after. The mower still runs (IMO Honda engines are much better than B&S), I patched up the deck and bag, and daughter now uses it.
For the price, low weight, rust free deck, I have found the Stihl RM448 to be a great mower. Still had issues (broken cables), but these are easy to replace or repair with crimp joiners.
Thank you, thats really helpful and good to know.
